September 16, 1908

General Motors was chartered.

After making the Buick Motor Company America’s top-selling car company, Flint millionaire William C. Durant filed articles of incorporation in New Jersey creating the General Motors Company. The event went unnoticed by the media, but in the next sixteen months, Durant acquired an assortment of different companies. Eventually, he succeeded in making General Motors the nation’s leading automobile producer.
